Good morning

I woke to the sound of my brother leaving for work and the sound of Tyler’s fingers tapping the laptop keyboard. The window was wide open and the air was cool. I was warm under my covers, well rested, fully awake. I was a silent, smiling morning spectator.
It was a very good morning.

Now and what’s to come

“The climate change we are experiencing now is from greenhouse gases such as CO2 released in the 1960s and 1970s. The damage we’re causing now won’t be felt for 30-40 years”. Brighton & Hove Life
As we walked along Brighton beach from city to magnificent white cliffs, the quote sank deeper in our concsious minds.

Behind our laughter throwing […]

Geoffrey

My brother locked himself out of his flat in Brighton one day. Like many others, he decided to climb through an open window.
Unlike many others, that window he climbed was four stories high.
“And then the window started to slide down on my hands. I only had about ten seconds to pull myself up through the window […]

Children and photos

I took this picture with the boys at Winborne model town, when the mother of the boy (who Tyler has in his arm) hurried across the miniture village to tell me, angrily, “did you just take a photo of my son? He has a condition you know”.
I was a bit taken aback. She must have thoght Tyler was a pedophile. Apparently, the […]

Chocolate vending machine

Nanny

Tyler and I idled too much talking with an enthusiastic Israeli salesman that we missed the train. His mum rolled her eyes. “You’re the slowest person I know Ty, I don’t understand how you did it on the race”. “I’ve got an on and off button mom”. “Most of the time it must be off, […]

Fitting the profile

Tyler to me is as un-suspicious a guy as anybody could be.
Who says “Hip-ya lady! Great Bitain here we come!” to the immigration personel behind the counter? A terrorist? Drug dealer? Illigal immigrant?
The old immigration lady did not take him well.
“First of all, the state of your passport is an utter mess. I don’t like it. The picture […]

Security

Tyler, his mum and I are flying to England tomorrow to visit our families. We are trying to figure out how to bring eyedrops and toothpaste onto the airplane cabin, looking for ways to evade the new ‘no liquids on board’ rule.
“I’ll squeeze toothpaste onto my tooth brush, all ready to go. No tube”.
“What if […]

Girl in a wash closet

I was in a restaurant, I went to the loo. A young girl was dressing her wounds on her face and her arms. “Did you fall down?” I asked. “Motorcycle accident” she replied. She had a Harley Davidson T-shirt on and no jacket. “A leather jacket would have saved me from these wounds” she regretted.
I […]
