Maria and German

After a scenic 7-hour bus ride we arrived in Mendoza, Argentina. A taxi driver drove slowly in the night while mum and dad attentively scanned houses on a long, unforgotten road. “Stop! Here it is! This corner, this is it!”
The house was dark and shut. A young girl stood in front with a friend. “Do […]

Santiago Chile

Autumn afternoon breeze through streets of Santiago, 4 of us in counting, walking and talking, reminiscing on their journey here 30 years ago.
“How peaceful it’s become. I was held by gun point by the militia under Pinochet when I walked through here. Remember Yosh, we wanted to get married here?”
“Ya, but we couldn’t. We got […]

Going to Chile and Argentina

Going to the office to fix a few things, then off to the airport to land in Santiago, Chile. Taking an iPod with my favourite songs, a good time to write lyrics. Haven’t seen my family together in years, as always, an adventure brings us closer.
Will be taking photos, will be taking every opportunity to […]

The right amount of food

This time, we ordered too much food.

Not many employees would take it home, so we asked the local homeless shelter.
A young happy man with bleached hair came in,
and left with a moon load of warm food.

Fish

Feet above ground.
(Taken at a marine fish store last night before being told off “No Pik chaas!” The fish looked oblivious to the goings on of the human world.)

Classes are offered but you don’t have to take them. There are ‘meetings’ where kids from ages 4 to 16, staff members and teachers alike, gather to decide matters, […]

Creative business language

Sat in on a meeting in the Board Room just now, took a few extra notes as I also listened for words that might be good band names. Here are some creative vocabulary that spurred out of this business meeting:
Resurrecting bone yard
Grandfathered in
Open game
Go No Go
Data pollination
Line in the sand
Finite channels
Hot button
Intangible score card
Hard trigger
Low hanging […]

Helping and being helped

A random encounter with my CASA girl, second time it’s happened while with Paul. By rule I can’t introduce my friends and family to her*, so I was happy they got to meet again.
I hadn’t seen her since she changed homes, for the 12th time in her life. The State is her care taker. Imagine […]

Big pillow fight

Walking home Tuesday evening, we crossed paths with a swarm of fiery lads and gals jogging toward the Ferry Building, all carrying pillows. About a thousand people gathered to release their inhibitions at San Francisco’s first organized pillow fight. News here.

Next year, I’m there!
