Disappearing Bees
It’s even got a name. “Colony Collapse Disorder“. My brother had heard about it last year in the UK. My mum waited in line to buy a book, “The Collapse of the Honeybee and the coming Agricultural Crisis“, in Japan. How come I haven’t heard much about it in the US?
This phenomenon of disappearing adult honeybees that leave no dead bodies in or around the hives (nobody can find them!), has been observed in much of the developed world. Yet those cases that have been scientifically identified as CCD are mainly US farmed bees. “36% of America’s 2.4 million hives were lost to CCD.”
What’s scary is that the cause of it is yet unknown, and the consequences to agricultural farming could be shocking. The bees are moved around from state to state pollinating different farms, such as those that grow almonds, blueberries, avocados, sunflowers, etc.
Has anybody heard about this?

yeah there was a documentary about it with Mark Walberg (sp?), didn’t work out well for the humans.
Only kidding. That’s really freaky. As much as I dislike a lot of insects, I know they are totally essential for our ecosystem and we’d be in the poo without them. I just wish we could find a replacement for mosquitoes. If we could reliable feed the birds/insects that need mosquitoes then I’d be all for making the little blood-suckers extinct.
I like bees though.

Mosquitos! If there’s one in my vicinity, I chase it down, nothing stopping me from killing a mosquito. I dont mind them sucking my blood, but why do they have to leave poison to make it so itchy?
