Vaccines and children

Out of curiosity, I’ve been doing some research regarding general infant health matters, like reasons for SIDs, signs of autism and diabetes in children, etc.  The more I dig, the more I find. I stumbled upon a new chapter, something I’d heard about before but never looked into; the dangers of vaccinations.

From this website: “One hundred years ago, children received 1 vaccine (the smallpox vaccine). Forty years ago, children received 5 vaccines routinely (diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, and smallpox vaccines) and as many as 8 shots by 2 years of age. Children now receive 52 vaccines, in the form of 15 shots, by the time they are 6 months of age if they receive all the recommend shots, including the Prevnar pediatric pneumonia shot. Vaccines contain THIMERSOL (mercury), MSG, aluminum, formaldehyde, sucrose and phenoxyethanol, which is antifreeze, among many other things. Thimerosal, a vaccine ingredient, is nearly 50% mercury.”

Quite scary. The fact that a lot of parents also associate vaccines to their baby’s sudden death or drastic changes in their mental/physical state should be enough for anybody to be cautionary. (parents testimonials)

there was a well-publicized study a few years back that claimed there was a link between vaccines and autism… however, it was later shown to have been based on false data and debunked: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/01/13/health/13auti.html

and since 2001, most vaccines contain no thimerosal: http://www.fda.gov/CbER/vaccine/thimfaq.htm

This American Life did a great story on the vaccine debate, you can listen for free (it’s the second one in this episode): http://thislife.org/Radio_Episode.aspx?episode=370
