Bare sole

Walked barefoot yesterday,
on the beach, up the steps, on the pavement, to my house.
Running, my heels didn’t touch the ground.
I felt lighter, empowered, like I owned evert step I took
- They were My steps! Every one of them!
The pavement felt cleaner than it looked. It was warm,
softer than I expected.
I found again, something lost,
kindred afresh […]

George’s visit

The day I picked up my dad from the airport, I had a karate belt test. We dumped his gear in my living room  – a corner of which he later put up his tent and made his temporary home– then rushed to the dojo where fellow white belts exchanged greetings crisp with tension.
The test […]

Biggest little adventure

6 year old D and I ran through the biggest park in San Francisco, ducking, climbing, hiding from “people persons”. After an intense 1 hour workout we came home only to realize I’d forgotten the house key inside the flat. Here began adventure part two.

We pressed the buzzer of the people living in the same […]

Monetizing money

Chance encounter x 2

I was to take the boy out to a museum that’s located in a park, but I couldn’t find parking so I kept driving through the greenery, looking for a patch of land to let him run like mini-Tarzan. I drove farther than I intended. Across the road I saw some kids playing, and it […]

Karate Kids Birthday Party

When I first nannied for them, the eldest girl was 4, the second one 2, and the third one not yet born. Now the girl is 8, the birthday boy 6, and the third one almost 4.
Theirs is a karate family; their father’s chosen path. During my recent visit I saw, just how sophisticated and […]

Biggest Bubbles I’ve ever seen

On a daily walk with the little boy,
we came across a giant bubble.

A man held two poles, one in each hand.
A dangling rope connected two ends of the poles.

The man dipped the rope in soap.
He asked the wind to blow.

The wind blew softly.
Softer than a baby’s temple.
Big bubbles came from the man’s magic wands.

The biggest […]

Meteor Showers

Backs against a warm bonnet, two bodies huddled and watched the night sky.
1 AM and a meteor brushed by, then another, and another.
Zonked out by 2 AM, we opted for a warmer bed.
(The meteor showers apparently peaked early morning on Wednesday. There may be more to see this weekend too.)
